WHERE am I going?

As someone who aspires to follow Jesus in all that I do and who also happens to be an aspiring surgeon, it is no surprise that the opportunity to fulfill a medical rotation requirement while in the mission field is a highly appealing one, to say the least.  And as it just so happens, this very opportunity has been presented to me, as I have been given the chance to serve at the Tansen Mission Hospital in the middle hills of Nepal, about 300 miles west of Kathmandu where I hope to carry out my surgery and pediatrics rotations.

WHY am I going?

Since 1954, the people of the Tansen mission have striven to love and "bring hope to some of the poorest and most needy people on this earth”, and my heart's desire is to spend February and March of 2014 serving in Tansen, where I hope to learn from the folks at Tansen about how to better serve my brothers and sisters in need.  Perhaps every bit as much as medical attention, our broken and impoverished brothers and sisters around the world need to feel the genuine, intentional, radical, and unconditional love of Christ.  The downtrodden and destitute of this world - those who call the streets their home and who must fight each day simply to stay alive - they, more than anyone, need to be cared for and listened to, respected and encouraged, touched and embraced.  They need to feel genuinely loved.  There are millions of people who daily ask themselves "what would Jesus do?", but who have no genuine intention of actually attempting to imitate him.  I want to be one of the multitudes who ponder this question daily, and I want to DO what I believe Jesus would have done as controversial or embarrassing or difficult as it may seem.   I feel God is calling me to dedicate my life to medical missions, and I passionately desire to love people in a way that is crazy and radical, in a way that impacts them and infects them with hope and joy.

WHAT do I need?

Between airfare, food, and housing expenses, I will need to raise a total of $2,200 by December 2013.  Please help send me to Tansen and get a glimpse of what it will be like to serve my God as a surgeon in the medical mission field.  I am trusting that just as God has filled me with conviction about serving as a medical missionary, He will also provide me with everything that I need to get to the mission field.  Above all else, pray that God would pave my way to Tansen, and that the lives of the people there could be radically changed by the love and care of the people of the Tansen Mission Hospital.  Thank you, and may God bless you with joy and peace!

“Amarás a tu prójimo Nepalí como a ti mismo.”

¿A dónde voy?
