Loss of our beloved Father

On November 16, 2018, my father, GILBERT “BERT” SUCGANG DURAN, was rushed to ER due to difficulty in breathing with higher pulse rate and dropping oxygen level. He was intubated and advised to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring. His biopsy result was released when he was in the ICU and we found out that he has Stage 4 Lung Cancer. On his 2nd week in the ICU, he undergone Tracheostomy because he wanted to get rid of the discomfort of the tube. He was in the ICU for more than 3 weeks and he requested to be transferred to a private room after the operation. The hospital required for Private Duty Nurses (PDN) from 6AM-6PM and 6PM-6AM to assist our father for any requests such as suction from his trach and mouth, changing his diaper, feeding him through Nasogastric Tube (NGT) with medicine, monitoring his mechanical ventilator, giving perineal wash, etc. Our family has no choice but to get PDNs from agency because the hospital was understaffed with nurses.

Our hospital account was put on hold due to lack of funds and obliged to pay in cash for every medicines and other related procedures needed to be done for my father. We also pay the PDNs everyday and buy their needed supplies. My father survived and was able to celebrate Christmas and New Year with our family while he was still in the hospital. Last January 19, 2019, he passed away due to Respiratory Failure, Right Lung Atelectasis Superior, Vena Cava Syndrome and Bronchogenic Carcinoma.

Gilbert Sucgang Duran was a service man, a community and church leader who went above and beyond to meet the needs of known members and strangers. He loved to serve and satisfy the needs of all. Although he suffered from Lung Cancer, he would always put the needs of others before his own health. His death was sudden and unexpected. He left behind a wife and four children.

Gilbert Sucgang Duran was a well-respected influential individual with a humble heart that served his community/church faithfully and never asked for anything in return. For those that have been touched directly or indirectly by Bert, please donate to help the Duran family in their time of need.
