As you can see, I’m going to host a mini event in relation to Asteroid Day 2016. It will be held in my local library, by the 30th of June this summer.
The event is going to be for free. The theme is Asteroids & Comets, as well as the threat that they cause to the Earth. But it's also about showing the good things about them, and hopefully using them to generating a personal overview effect in the audience. It will be a talk with some extra activities, hosted my myself with power point presentations, videos, pictures, raffles, etc… I’ll be talking about the science and technology in relation to explore these bodies throughout the Solar System. It will also be to investigate and pressent the potential threat, that these have on our civilisation and life on planet Earth. Ultimately, I will also pressent several things that humanity and, for sure regular citizens like you and me, can do about it.
To make the outreach attractive, I may need some help. Primarily, to order an event poster, that has to be made of some waterproof material. It has to be hung on the outside of the library, so that pedestrians easily can see what will be going on in their vicinity at the 30th of June. It will be reusable, because I plan to use it every year. :) Secondly, I may also need some help to buy two books, some astronomy merchandise and a Planetarium & IMAX tickets for a raffle, that will also take place at the event.
I have a background in technical science & astronomy from the Technical University of Denmark and the Niels Bohr Institute. I’ve also participated in the observation and discovery of a new asteroid, as well as in the confirmation of several new Asteroids, Comets and Near Earth Objects. Besides of that, I’ve also characterised tens and tens of Asteroids and Comets, through the submission of astrometric observations to professional databases. I’ve also collaborated with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, The International Astronomical Union, The Minor Planet Center, the Ondrejov Asteroid Photometry Project, as well as amateur astronomers world wide.
Now I’m very excited to make this event a reality. As well as to inform ordinary people, and to inspire younger generations to eventually pursue a career in Science & Technology.
That’s all, I look very much forward to your donation, no matter how little it is. This way, I can give better prizes to the audience, as well as a bigger poster to help advertise for the event in a better way. I think the more attractive the prizes are, the more satisfaction and (most importantly) more interest there will be among the audience. The target group are people, that has very little or no interest in Space at all. Also, if the funding is enough, I would be able to offer free sandwiches and coffee from the local café. :) All of this is actually what I need the money for. And who knows, maybe there will be enough to rent a camera with an SD-card, so that I can record and post a video summary on Youtube. (:
Thanks very much in advance!
Kind regards form,
