This August and September I am volunteering with SB Overseas, a Belgian charitable organisation started in 2011 in response to the Syrian refugee crisis. I'll be in their Beirut school working as an English Language Teacher to women and children, with weekends helping out at the refugee camps and organising activities for the children. I want to fundraise to help cover the cost of my flights ($1700) and the volunteer fee (minimum $500USD). Any money over this amount I'll give directly to SB Overseas.
The tiny country of Lebanon currently has around 6 million people in it and almost 30% of the population are refugees. A huge number of these refugees are in the UN most vulnerable category of women and children. The education programs SB Overseas run are crucial aids to the resettlement of the refugees in Lebanon. The women learn skills that help them gain safe employment, while the children, some of whom have been out of school for many years or have never been to school, learn the skills they'll need when they enter the Lebanese school system.
Last year I studied to become an English as a Second Language Teacher and I'm looking forward to using my training in such a worthwhile manner for an organisation I believe is doing important work. Any donation to help me get there is really appreciated.
If you would prefer to donate to the organisation itself, that's awesome! Here's a link to their donations page.
Thanks so much,
