LIFTED SOULS: Supporting GBV victims in Kenya (Imarisha Maisha Project)

WE ARE FUNDRAISING TO HELP ALLEVIATE VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE!!!

Our project aims to tackle GBV at 3 stages:

• Prevention We aim to provide comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health training and interactive forums through school engagement, local community outreach, and fund days for young adults. These will create a space where we can raise awareness of sexuality rights and consent. In greater depths we aim to conducting sessions on relationships, sex education and contraceptives in high school so young people are able to talk freely about traditionally “taboo” topics and are aware of the help that is readily available to them.

• Survivors We currently run semi-monthly Women-Only support groups where local members engage and experience therapeutic peer counselling. This is a safe space that allows survivors of gender-based violence to discuss their experiences and reintegrate themselves back into the community. These meetings also provide the women with new and fun skills on economic generating activities. We aim to expand the number of peer-support groups to cater to the demand for both survivors and victims.

• Victims We aim to conduct stakeholder capacity building on potential reporting procedures within public and private organisations to encourage reporting existing and future cases of gender-based violence. In these sessions we will create an awareness of the functions of the existing police gender desk and establishments that deal with cases of gender-based violence as well as provide communal support for the organisations.
