Library and Literacy Center for Barewoturu Village, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea

Library and Literacy Center for Bare' is a fundraising drive for children and families in Barewoturu Village of Oro/Northern Province of Papua New Guinea. Please help me help this children and families build a mini library and literacy centre.

I visited the Barewoturu village last year to find out that the community primary and elementary school there does not have a library, not even books. The elementary school did not have a teacher and most of the kids ages between 6 years and 10 years were sent home to help their parents work in gardens. Due to lack of teachers, some students repeat year after year and are in their early 20s. This is a similar situations to other Primary Schools in the same province.

The building up a small library and literacy center in Barewoturu Village will cost about $30, 000.00 (which is about K85, 000.00 in PNG Kina.

At this stage, my grandmother's family have donated their customary land for a center to be built on as they believe this will help bring education for everyone.
