Last year of the university

Hello everyone, my name is Mohamed Elgendy. I am a 23 years old, full-time student studying creative media production while also working full-time at a TV Channel as a second assistant director.

I am originally from Egypt but, unfortunately like so many young people, I had to flee my country as I was a political prisoner when I was only 17, not even an adult yet. I got out of this nightmare after two years of injustice. In June 2017, after five months of my release from prison, I decided to move to Turkey. Why did I choose Turkey? Because Turkey has more opportunities that would help and allow me to achieve my goals and dreams. One of these goals is to study creative media production to be able to spread awareness, prevent injustice and create freedom of opinion. By doing so, I want people all over the world to become aware that political prisoners are not criminals, but are educated and cultured people who want to live in freedom and peace.

Now, I am studying at Axcel International Academy which has a 2+1 system, where I study 2 years in Turkey and the third in the UK. I am currently finishing my second year in the media production department and I am planning on going to Britain next September to study my third and final year at the University of Derby. Unfortunately, I am not able to afford the university tuition fees for next year, because the fees alone are over 19 thousand dollar and that’s more than my yearly income. This number does not include accommodation nor living expenses.

My family is not able to help pay for my expenses, which made me financially independent from a young age. I want to achieve my goals and complete my studies in this amazing field but I don’t want my financial situation to prevent me from doing so. Any contribution would be of great help for me to continue on this path.
