Campaign Story
On boxing day, a plea from Miss Adeline, a 17-year-old secondary school student, and her family was forwarded to us as a last resort. They migrated to Kuching a decade ago for a better life, but financial challenges have hit hard. Her father, a salesman, struggles to meet ends with a low basic income. Recent setbacks in hitting sales targets led to 4-months in overdue rent and unpaid utility bills. To add to that their mounting food expenses and Miss Adeline’s high education fees and transport expenses have the family in further debt. Miss Adeline’s father’s recent financial struggles also led to a recent utility disconnection.
Miss Adeline's story was forwarded by her compassionate landlord,
Mr. Chong, who witnessed the family’s struggle and couldn’t turn a blind eye. Mr. Chong mentioned that an agreement between him and Miss Adeline’s father was made – to pay RM50/month. However, due to unstable monthly income, the father still struggles to pay for the family’s expenses, house rents, and utility bills.
Mr. Chong has come forward, not as a landlord but as a beacon of hope for Miss Adeline’s family to secure the next six months' rent and to help with the family’s stability. Chong does not wish to evict them but after years of unstable rental this is his last resort.
