Hi! I’m Krisha, 32 years of age from the Philippines, single mom to a 4-year old daughter, diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or commonly known as Kidney Failure. At Stage 5, my kidney is functioning at 4% only, hence the need for a Kidney Transplant to have a better quality of life. Together with my family and friends, we need to raise (Php 3,000,000.00 / 60,000.00 USD) to cover all expenses from lab tests, surgery, and atleast three months post transplant medications.36614870_1549389307623246_r.jpeg

I was aware that my kidneys will eventually fail since my kidneys were weak. I was regularly having UTI during my teens, had kidney stones and edema when I was in the university.

In 2014, I was advised by my nephrologist to terminate my pregnancy to save the remaining 49-51% function of my kidneys but I chose to give my daughter a chance to live because I believe that there will be no assurance that kidney workup will give me the chance to conceive again.

Having said that, on September 22, 2015, almost a year after I gave birth, I was rushed to ER after working because my blood pressure went really high (200/120). I had a series of lab tests and there, I was informed by my new nephrologist that my GFR was only 11% which means that I was already a candidate for dialysis. Kidney function soared to 18% through her help, with strict diet and proper medications but she told me that this illness is progressive.

I must admit, it was never easy. I became too thin. I was confined several times because of electrolyte imbalance (a complication of CKD). There I experienced to totally black out and just wake up inside the ER. I even experienced having a blood pressure of 75/45 alongside with critical levels of K and Na which is fatal. The saddest part there was I forgot who my daughter was. I can’t recall that I have a daughter. It may sound crazy but yes, I forgot her. I was crying because I couldn’t remember her. When my electrolytes stabilized, I remembered her. Going to and fro the hospital became a part of my life for years.

And last June 13, 2018, I was diagnosed with ESRD secondary to Chronic Glomerulonephritis (Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5). I had to undergo emergency dialysis because I was already symptomatic and my creatinine was already 971 umol/L (normal value: 50.4-98.1).

It pains me more because my 4-year old daughter thought of giving her own kidney so that I don’t need to leave her every other day just to be treated. She even told me that she doesn’t want me to undergo dialysis anymore because she misses me. 36614870_1548961160970433_r.jpeg

Just so you know, almost one third of your day is consumed when you need to have a treatment (from prep to going home). I know every patient has to deal with such exhausting schedule (to visit the clinic on a regular basis to live).

It was indeed a roller coaster ride. Looking back, I never thought that I went through all those uneventful things.

They say that transplant is never a cure but it will really help you live a better life compared with dialysis. I started to accept the fact that I have to have myself listed as a cadaver kidney recipient. I was so afraid of asking my siblings because it has to be someone’s own free will if you want to spare your kidney or not.

Luckily, my sister expressed that she’s willing to get tested first instead of my brother and if everything else went fine, then she’ll spare her kidney for me to have a better life.

Now, we are undergoing series of tests in preparation for kidney transplant. Hopefully, we can have the transplant latest first week of April 2019.

I thank you in advance for helping us to raise enough funds and for sharing this link.

Gratefully,
Krish
