I work in Mbeere South which is the largest constituency in Embu county in Kenya. Due to climatic and geological factors, we have unfortunately found ourselves in a situation whereby we are marginalized and riddled with poverty.
This socioeconomic situation has resulted in girls of the school-going age being unable to attend school regularly during their menstruation as they cannot afford sanitary pads. Their forced absence from school puts a strain on them both socially and academically.
Most recently one student who was publicly ostracized by her teacher when she unexpectedly experienced her period in class and soiled her uniform, ended up taking her own life. This has left the community shocked and in deep despair.
In line with the #InternationalDayOfTheGirl, I am looking for donors and partners to help me sensitize the community on matters pertaining to #MenstrualHygieneManagement and also regularly supply our girls with Sanitary towels and panties. This will result in keeping our girls in school and also shield them from the stigma of a natural biological occurrence.
Therefore, I would like to partner with individuals, companies and organisations to help me make this a reality for the girls in #MbeereSouth
All I want to ask is for willing partners to donate any amount they can to facilitate the purchase of atleast a packet of sanitary towels and 2 panties for each girl in #MbeereSouth?
