For the past 5 years, members and friends of Ktizo United Church of Christ, Phoenix, AZ, in partnership with JustHope.org have traveled to La Flor, Nicaragua, a small, mountaintop village in the cloud forest of 55 families bringing hope and resources. When we asked the community leaders what their hopes and dreams were they said, "We can have hopes and dreams?"  They soon shared those hopes and dreams: "A church/community center: if we put God first, everything else will come. Health care. Education for our children. Clean water. Jobs. Decent housing." All the things we take for granted. A community center was built. Medicines for a nurse to treat people of the village and school supplies for the schools came next.  Then clean water through a new chlorinator and pipes. Latrines for 90% of the community. A store for their village so that people do not have to travel all day to get to the nearest city. Leadership development has strengthened the leaders of the community. Now women of the community are ready for microcredit loans $140)  to begin their own businesses to benefit the community and their families.  An outdoor shower will allow other mission groups to come and stay in the village ($1500) and a gas generator powered concrete mixer will bring concrete floors to homes to improve health ($350).  Volunteers from Phoenix and other US cities pay $1600 each to be a part of a 10-day partnership trip, building relationships with the children and families of the village.  "Going to La Flor changed my life.  I am a new person, transformed by the warmth and love of the people of La Flor. I am a part of bringing justice and hope to a small piece of the world."

Our partnership support has empowered La Flor to be advocates for their health and well being. They have gotten electricity, a road, a high school (beyond the 6th grade that the government provides), livestock and entrepenuerial businesses of their own (passion fruit orchard, coffee farms, etc.)

Your donations will support leadership training, job creation through microcredit loans, and home improvement (they live in shacks with dirt floors, tin roofs, and wood and plastic walls). Your donations will create global citizens of our volunteers who come back and get involved in their local communities (Habitat for Humanity, Community Gardens, A Hand Up not Out).  We will continue to partner with La Flor, watch their children grow up, and be transformed.

Thank you for your support.
