A first step to make an impact
We are Luz and David. After 10 years building our careers as scientists, we left our jobs to follow our passions to improve education and promote social innovation.
Challenge
The one paradigm that has spread around the world gives only one mission to humankind: the maximisation of profit, at the cost of environmental and social exploitation. The world's 8 richest people have the same wealth as the poorest 50% (3.9 bn people). By 2050 there will be more plastics than fish in the ocean. The educational system created for the industrial revolution is now applied everywhere in the world.
Solutions
We need both immediate action and a long-lasting transformational swift. Social entrepreneurship can be the vehicle for immediate action, based on driving social or environmental impact with a financially sustainable business model. Education is the means for long-lasting impact, developing the full potential of people to trust and care for each other and nature.
Our contribution
In the past 10 months we have reached +80 organisations leading social and educational innovation in the Middle East and Asia. We have generated resources to inspire educators, entrepreneurs and investors; at the same time than contributing to their cause, for instance providing capacity building workshops and mentorship. All self-funded!
You can see examples of our work here: Global
Innovation Path
& Evolving Education.
Here’s one of our learnings: When given the tools, people will change the world for better:
Taungyi, Myanmar, 7 in the morning. As we walked in the streets on the search for breakfast we heard repeated whispers. Getting closer to a building we started distinguishing words in English. It was a school. The teacher reads a book in English and the students repeat every word. All text books are in English in Myanmar, but people don’t speak English here, so they just repeat and memorise for their exams.
Not all schools are like this though. We were volunteering at TKM, an institute preparing the youth to challenge the status quo in a country immersed in a civil war for the last 70 years. We taught about non-violent conflict resolution. Thwe, a 19 year-old girl, came from a refugee camp in the border with Thailand: “I want to go back to my camp and teach children so that they know that other world is possible”.
What we need funding for
In March we start the next phase of our adventure in Latin America, and we need your support to make it happen. We will still fund most of the learning journey, but need €5,000 to fund our pro-bono work.
We have set up three objectives:
- Pro-bono projects in selected impact organisations for several months. We already selected the first one: an orphanage in Guatemala!
- Share our learnings in educational institutions in 10 countries: El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
- Keep generating resources to inspire people to take the path of social entrepreneurship and improving education, for instance learning from indigenous knowledge in the Amazon.
Please make a donation and share with your friends! For every contribution we will send you a THANK YOU high-resolution picture of the wonders that we have discovered in this adventure.

I had the opportunity to meet David in GSK when he was in Wavre. It is so inspiring to read your posts in LinkedIn and admire the courage you and Luz had to quit the jobs to pursue this project. I admire your conviction and would be so happy to follow you virtually during your trips. You will be in my home country Bolivia, can't wait to receive a picture from there ;-) Good luck and share the learnings
