In India, there is approximately 50,000 orphans, only 3.2% of which will find new parents. When I first read this statistic, I was shocked. 3.2% - that means that while 1,600 orphans will go to new homes, 48,400 will remain parentless. My first instinct was to help. Now, I can't just go and adopt an orphan from India, as I am only 18 and still at university, but a two week volunteer trip.. That, I can do.
The trip would be from the 15th of October to the 29th and would cost me roughly $850 not including flights. While on the volunteer trip, I would get to interact with a lot of very different and unique kids who's parents have either abandoned them or passed away. I would get to teach them, play with them and learn A LOT from them. A trip like this is something I have wanted to do for a very long time, and I think that it would be the most amazing eye-opening experience, especially at my age.
I currently study a Bachelor of Psychological Science and hope to work with children in the future. Not only would this volunteer trip be an amazing experience, but it would also help me to hopefully become a better psychologist once I graduate. As a university student who studies full-time and works part-time, a trip like this will be a big expenditure for me. So I have taken to a fundraising page to hopefully pull in some generous donations in order to help me help those who need it most.
