Illuminated lives of the elderly in Haiti

Thousand of the elderly are sleeping in the street of Haiti. The population is about 9 million where 10 % of the population are elderly over 65. They have aged in a country where many people die young. Therefore we created Caring By Angels for Haiti,Inc to provide support to the mentally ill,the poor and the distressed citizens of Haiti. Our organization will create a positive,supportive environment contributing to an improved quality of life for the elderly in the centre department of Haiti.
In 2004, before our organization's registration with the State, I built a 16-bedroom house in Haiti that can easily fit 24 residents and can be used as a temporary shelter until their assisted living facility can be built. To do so, I purchased 10 acres of land to build after finding funders that will be willing to lend a hand. At Caring By Angels for Haiti, Inc., we are dedicated to helping each person to become healthy and whole from the inside out. We believe that everyone matters and is of high value, even in old age. Therefore, we will utilize a bid system to secure contractors to build the assisted living facility along with volunteers. Contractors will be chosen based upon the history of quality of work and the estimated cost. Resident rooms in the facility will accommodate one to two people each with one bathroom per room. We will also have an on-site cafeteria, common room activities, and possibly a chapel. The organization's projects are implemented by a well-trained staff and will focus on meeting the primary needs of the Haitian community, such as food, clothing, and financial support. By helping to mitigate the severe poverty that grips Haiti, Caring By Angels for Haiti, Inc. provides many individuals with a thorough foundation for sustained health and well-being. In order to achieve these goals, we have developed the following specific objectives:

1. To build and develop a suitable nursing home facility for elderly residents by June 30, 2015.
2. To provide residential care for 200 senior residents in our assisted living facility by June 30, 2015.

In addition to donations and grants, the development committee plans to maintain a great degree of self-sustainability through the solicitation of corporate sponsorships and fundraising events. In-kind donations will provide an additional source of revenue for all programs. We plan to continue funding our organization in this manner as long as it is necessary.

I am sure that everyone on this planet knows that Haiti doesn't offer any retirement and medical coverage to its senior citizens since their independence. Establishing an assisted living facility will be an excellent avenue toward accomplishing superior physical, emotional, and social health for the elderly.

We are located at the Centre Department of Haiti in the arid, mountainous region near the Dominican Republic. It is a region of farming families that rely on poor-quality water collected from a dirty river that separates Haiti from Dominican Republic.
The small stream where they collect water is dirty and contaminated with livestock waste and dead animals. The lack of access to clean water leaves the elderly in the region vulnerable to diseases and illnesses.

Every first Sunday of the month, all of them eat together at that house. I have several friends that bring clothes for them. I place a lady in my yard who is responsible for feeding them every month. Since 1979, I have been helping them out. While I am living in America, I have an obligation to send $200 to feed them every month. I always told them I would never forget them. I really want to do something meaningful for them. Something that gives people hope. This campaign would only be possible with your help and your compassion.
