Every year thousands of foreigners come to Moshi, Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The reason why so many people are able to accomplish this challenge is due to the back-breaking work from Kilimanjaro's porters. Most of these porters are impoverished Tanzanians who depend on this labor-intensive work in order to sustain themselves. Often times the working conditions are very poor as many of the climbing companies do not provide adequate gear or even food for their employees. There is an NGO here in Moshi called the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). KPAP gives a voice to the porters of Tanzania and works to improve the working conditions of the porters on Kilimanjaro by providing the porters with donated clothing, educational programs, and ensuring that climbing companies abide by the Guidelines for Proper Porter Treatment as well as Tanzanian laws. All donations will go to help this worthy cause and the porters of Kilimanjaro.
