The Stray Animals in MALVAN need your HELP Right Now!

We are a Mother - Daughter Team who have been Animal Rescuers for about 20 years now.

We have usually, all our lives, stayed in cities where there are rescue or animal care centers where one could bring an animal for care and medical attention. Last year on a project we happened to come to Malvan, a beautiful scenic coastal town thriving with tourist who come here to enjoy Scuba Diving.

My daughter has recently completed her Veterinary Assistance course and I am a practicing Life Coach, we both share an immense desire to help and make the world a better place for all. All our lives we have taken in abandoned and hurt animals, they have healed and rehabilitated at our home and gone on to better more loving homes and families. We started project OCEAN (Organization of Conscious Evolution and Awareness of Nature) last year with a plan to start an awareness center for animals and nature including a sustainable Waste Management project.

We got to Malvan and were initially distressed at the high number of dogs who are ailing and diseased, so the both of us initially got medication and food and went around medicating as many dogs as we possibly could, however on researching further we were aghast to realize that there has NEVER been a rescue or animal care center in these parts (Attached Map of the district). The closest rescue Center is 4 hours and over 100 kms away by Road and located in the nearby state of Goa, already full up with their own rescue cases.

I personally went to the local Municipal Authorities to understand whats going on,

The first few meetings were with junior personnel who explained that there has never been an Anti-Rabies Campaign or an ABC (Animal Birth Control) Campaign and the locals have for years poisoned dogs to control population.

As I was explaining the urgent need for a rescue and Care Center, one of the govt officials said "You know Madam, lot of you educated people come over every now and again to preach to us simple folk, how these amazing things must be done... Well, we don't know how to do it. You come over here on vacations talk about all of this and then go back to your cushy life in the city and you will forget all about this... "

Would you be willing to take on this project ?... Will YOU do it?'

It was honestly a huge decision for us, Malvan is lovely no doubt, but it comes with several challenges.

No high-speed Internet, terrible phone connectivity, 100 kms away from the closest friends and party hubs so no socializing, bad network hits my online job adversely, transportation to and from this place is incredibly difficult as of now.

Then we looked at the dogs .... I have never seen a more ignored, entirely apathetic and malnourished state of strays ever before. Over 60% of them are ailing from Mange or Dermatitis, and there are limping, wounded, pregnant and starving dogs are found everywhere. It is heart breaking to say the least.

That's when we decided we are going to stay back and CREATE a Animal Rescue Center from the scratch.

YES, the project is a huge challenge and responsibility, however there must be a start somewhere.

The turning point for us was when we found a dog with a huge maggot wound on his head, ear canal eaten and ready to give up entirely on life, we saw him lying shriveled up on the side of the road and a man with a stick shooing him away from the front of his shop because his wound had the stench of maggots eating it from within... The dog slowly and pitifully moved away in agony and curled up into a ball a distance away. My Daughter, Shania and I went over to look and under our flashlight we could see thousands of maggots gnawing at his skull. Thankfully we found him in time and immediately took him home where we spent hours removing maggots and put him on a serious course of medication. He is now in the process of healing and is thriving, full of life! (Pictures attached)

People here have said time and time again "You know, they usually die in a few days", also they have given us multiple examples of puppies and adult dogs that have had accidents and maggot wounds who have died because of the lack of care or empathy. The complete ignorance to fellow living beings is not only saddening but incredibly unjustified and ignorant! All these cases and medical ailments are completely treatable under the right care and observation.

So here we are requesting you to support us, the dogs of Malvan need your help,
