Campaign Story
Asylum seekers in Cyprus face daunting challenges. Through volunteering with a charity, "Agapi," I've met people who have faced enormous obstacles in their struggle to rebuild their lives in a safe place. One man's story has moved me to seek your help. LARRY. Back home, his father murdered, his business burned down, then he himself shot. He ran. Got himself to Limassol where, last Fall he was attacked and injured by right wing extremists. And three weeks ago, Larry's house caught fire (we still suspect arson). He lost everything. He's been my guest in the little stone cottage I rent. Now he needs to find a flat to rent and share with other asylum seekers. Rents in Limassol are sky high because wealthy families from Russia and Israel have been arriving in droves. Larry is looking at an empty 3-bedroom that rents for 1500/month. I'm trying to raise 3000 that will cover deposit, part of one month's rent, and expenses for furniture and kitchen equipment. Clothes, kitchen equipment, towels, mattresses will be donated by Agapi. Larry has a few job offers. He will be up and on his feet, but needs us to help him get into a flat, get settled, and start to rebuild his life, again. This intelligent, soft spoken modest young man has suffered grievous losses. I'm determined to see him on firm, stable ground. I'm determined to show him there are good people with compassion, who care.
Rewards
Be my guest for a weekend in a beautiful 105 year old traditional Cypriot stone cottage, located on a hill above a one-street village, just below Germasogeia Dam. Let birds and church bells awaken you to perfect views of mountains under the bluest skies.
