Helping two boys schooling in Kenya

During my twenty years working for the UN I was lucky to be sent to Mombasa in Kenya during my almost three years I employed a housekeeper by the name of Carol, as time passed and my wife Eleni visited Mombasa we learnt about her family and her personal situation, Eleni and I visited Carols house and like thousands of Kenyans their situation was very bad, but amazingly the two boys Barbel and Christian) Carol has were happy and like normal children of three and five years old . With no husband (now in prison for beating Carol) to support her and the boys, Carol was doing all she could just to feed them. Eleni and I decided to help where we could, so a ten-year period of help began.

We thought the only way the boys stood a chance at a future that did not involve crime and drugs was for Carol to be self-sufficient to support school and a basic safe home environment. To that end we provided for a better basic home and as soon as the boys were able, they were off to school.

Over the last ten years the family has been through many ups and downs, including losing her very small shop selling cloths and make-up products due to the riots in Bamburi and area of Mombasa they burnt and stole everything. Through sickness and just trying to survive life in the poor parts of Mombasa the boys are doing well, but now they will be going back to school after the lock down from Covid.

So now this is where I need some help. I have now retired from the UN and cannot manage to fund the family’s basic needs (food, shelter, and schooling) so I have stated a “GoGetFunding” fundraiser.

I will manage this fund and as with all money sent for each item Carol must produce a receipt and for the school all relevant proof of attendance and letters from the school on all expenses.I will use an old account I have in Kenya and make payments through M-PESA (and bank to phone payment system so all payments may be tracked. I will post a detailed itemised list of the monthly expenses.
