Expedia APAC is partnering with WECare Worldwide, a small startup charity that focuses on animal welfare in rural Sri Lanka for a corporate social responsibility program from Dec 8th to Dec 11th, 2018.
As a volunteer, I will be assisting the WECare team with (CNVR) catching, neutering, vaccinating and then releasing our pups! CNVR is carried out as it is the most humane way to reduce roaming dog populations and reduce the number of unwanted puppies that are dumped on the streets at a very young age. It also allows the females that would inevitably spend their whole lives pregnant to only have to worry about number one when thinking about limited food resources and shelter options, which transforms their lives. It also reduces disease in the males and reduces both territorial and roaming behaviours which often lead to fights or road traffic accidents. Rabies is endemic in Sri Lanka and vaccinating the dog population against the disease is the most effective way to eliminate it in the human population.
This is a self-funded volunteering program, so I’m fundraising to help cover other costs such as supplies & resources and donations to the clinic. If you would like to share some love with our pups, a generous donation would go a long way!
Thank you for your support!
About the charity
"WECare are going to save the world, one animal at a time!" Janey Lowes, very optimistic founding member of WECare Worldwide. We dream of providing healthcare for all animals in desperate need of help around the world. Yes, we know it's a big dream, but anything is possible when we all come together! WECare Worldwide is an organisation set up by Westway Veterinary Group, the largest veterinary practice in the North of England. Ultimately, WECare Worldwide plan to extend veterinary services around the globe but initially will be concentrating on tackling the issues with the street dog population in Sri Lanka. It is estimated that there are up to 3 million street dogs in Sri Lanka. WECare Worldwide are in the process of carrying out a 5 year plan in which we will look to help eliminate rabies in the country and also reduce the numbers of unwanted street dogs. We will also treat any sick or injured street dogs.
