My father, Eddie Barretto, was diagnosed with poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma last November 7, 2016. He needed to undergo surgery immediately to remove almost 2/3 of his stomach, where the tumor is present. He was in the hospital for more than 2 weeks. Our hospital bill amounted to Php 300k ($6000) including doctor's fees. Before the operation, his stomach needed to be cleared so he was not allowed to eat, his nutrition came from a medicine called kabevin, it is administered intravenously. It costs Php4600 ($100) and only good for 24 hours, he was on kabevin for almost 2 weeks.

After the operation, his doctor told us that the tumor that he removed already metastasised and he needed chemotherapy to get rid of all the cancer cells. Another biopsy was done to a tumor found in his intestine but it was benign.

We were discharged from the hospital and advised to come back after 2 months. We prayed hard for our father, his diet was monitored and he was recovering well. He was slowly gaining weight.

We went back to his doctor and was referred to an oncologist to have some tests (CT Scan, Endoscopy, Xray, etc) to determine if he really needed chemotherapy. But before we can go back to the oncologist, my father was again admitted to the hospital because he has not passed stool for almost a week and was vomiting. His doctor told us that the part where the tumor was removed from the operation was swollen and food is getting stuck there, and not moving to his intestines. It was drained using an NGT and enema was also administered to his rectum to help with bowel movement. It was also during this time that the doctor told us that the results from the Oncologist's test have showed that our dad is now cancer-free. After a week we were sent home since his condition is a bit better.

But just a few days from being discharged from the hospital, he was vomiting profusely and has not passed stool for days.

We brought him back to the doctor and was admitted again to the hospital. His doctor told us that they suspect it was Efferent loop syndrome and post op adhesion. The only way to fix the issue is to do another operation and to make another way for the food to flow to his intestines. He was on NGT again and was also back on Kabiven for his nutrition.

The 2nd surgery was done March 27, 2017. The doctor found a lot of tumors in a some parts of his intestines, blocking his food intake. The bypass that the doctor did will allow the food to go straight to his stomach. Another biopsy will be performed to see if the tumors are cancerous. The doctor has advised us for chemotherapy to remove the tumors.

We made this page to ask for your help for our medical expenses, as of now, our father is still in the hospital, recovering from the operation. Right now, our funds are low considering it has only been 4 months since the first operation. Any amount will go a long way. Aside from the financial assistance, we also ask that you say a prayer for our dad, and for our family. In behalf of my siblings and our mom, we would like to thank you for extending your helping hands for the fast recovery of our dad.
