Help us support pregnant moms during the pandemic and subsidize Mama’s Moments Maternity Kits for them

COVID-19 has already led to a major health crisis in several countries and to major disruptions of the global economy. These are tough, highly unique, times. Many people have lost their jobs, others are furloughed and still more of you wonder what will happen next week, next month or after the expiration of the current lockdown measures. Yet price increases for essential commodities are now a norm- including essentials that pregnant women need to give birth to their baby in a public health facility. During this pandemic, we need to help and support those at risk especially pregnant women. Maurice Gregory through Mama's Moments is doing that by; (Mama's Moments is a home-grown comprehensive health initiative formulated to tackle the challenges of maternal mortality and morbidity in Zambia).

• PRODUCING A SUBSIDIZED MAMA'S MOMENTS MATERNITY KIT

This is a bag of sterilized essential supplies that a pregnant woman needs to buy for the safe delivery of her baby in a public health facility. Mama's Moments Maternity Kits are recommended by the Ministry of Health and are subsidized. They are promoted by safe motherhood action groups.

• SUPPORTING SAFE MOTHERHOOD ACTION GROUPS (SMAGs)

SMAG members volunteer their time to deliver essential information on safe motherhood to men and women; encourage pregnant women to go for antenatal care, delivery, and postnatal care in a health facility; identify maternal and newborn complications during pregnancy, delivery, and the postnatal period; offer first aid care, and refer cases with maternal and newborn problems for management at health facilities. These create awareness for the Mama's Moments Maternity Kit which they sell for a tiny profit.

• WHY THIS CAMPAIGN

We are creating this in order to get donations to subsidize the Maternity Kits further so that pregnant women stay home unless it is necessary and also avoid crowded places (because we all know that due to changes in their bodies and immune systems, pregnant moms can be badly affected by some respiratory infections) and that volunteer SMAGs will not be tempted to seek alternative employment as more Kits will be sold due to subsidy.
