Help us restoring our desert farm water well!

Dar Jan is a 9 acres organic farm and creative space for art and wellbeing located between the mountains and the sea in the desert of Nuweibaa, South Sinai, Egypt.

It was created back in 2016 by us, a couple, Gihan & Khaled, who left the city life and successful corporate careers in Egypt & Canada to move to a piece of land in the desert and realize their dream. By our own hands we built the infrastructure of an organic farm that now produces in addition to our own veggies, aromatic herbs, hibiscus and aubergine jams, sun dried tomato, dattes and olives and much more. Being passionate about life we felt the need to share our dream with people who are like minded so we created the Art & Wellbeing space where we hold workshops lasting from 1 to 5 days about all kinds of art (Pottery, Mosaic, Painting, writing..etc) , wellbeing practices (Yoga, meditation, Dance & movement therapy, Art Therapy and more) and of course workshops about organic farming and earthen building.

Due to the climate change and other challenges related to the environment our main water source which is the well that we dug 7 years ago is almost blocked. It does not produce as much water as needed to sustain our farm specially that we now have grown tree with increasing need for water.

We are already very cautious about water consumption using dripping irrigation system and automatic scheduling but the situation is getting urgent and we are starting to lose some our of crops because of the decreasing capacity of our well.

What we need to do is to bring a well digging & repair team to drill deeper in the well allowing a more steady and sufficient water flow and reinforce it by installing a support system in the new depth to secure it.

The world economical situation has been difficult for sometime and the political situation in our area is becoming unstable causing the tourism business to take a big hit which effected our economical capacity forcing us to rely almost exclusively on the farm and its produces as main revenue stream.

We urgently need to restore the farms capacity and we cannot do it without the your help. So please share this call to everyone who still believes that every little bit can make a difference.
