Campaign Story
Over 30 years ago when I had just been born, my parents plus other people who had large chunks of idle land decided to put it to sugar cane growing. This was after the management of a neighbouring sugar processing factory decided to increase sugar production from the factory which meant more sugar cane be grown.
Promised high income and other privileges including receiving free sugar periodically, my parents and other land lords highered several hectares of their lands to the sugar factory while others got support of agro inputs from the factory and grew the cane themselves to periodically sell mature cane to the factory for sugar processing. Of course all seemed rosy at that time.
The only danger that came along with the cane growing was the use of toxic agro chemicals especially the inorganic fertilizers that gradually and steadily degraded the soils. Unfortunately it is these soils we are looking at to be able to generate some income to look after our own families and as well further develop them through agriculture. In brief many of us here are currently suffering the negative consequences of the poor decision that our parents made.
We are looking at using these degraded lands to support these families and even further their development mainly through agriculture, but this is impossible at the moment because the lands are so barren. A few of us knowledgable of the problem have endavoured to sensitize others not to add any more inorganic fertilizers as this will even worsen the problem.
We are looking at using typically organic supplements to fix the problem and thus the support we are looking for. We want to manufacture an organic fertilizer because we need much of it as we shall have to apply it on to the lands or soils for up to 2 to 3 years after which we can expect some positive results.
Kindly support us. Thank you and may God bless you.
