The name of our cook is Lamin Saidykhan and he has worked with us since 2007. He is married to Ramatoulie and together they have two daughters, Binta with her 9 years is the oldest. Monday the 7th of April Binta was hit by a taxi and immediately taken to Royal Victoria Hospital in Banjul. She has multiple fractures in her hip and the leg is broken in two places. Royal Victoria Hospital has explained that they do not have the resources to treat her properly and told Lamin that he has to rent an ambulance and take her to Dakar in Senegal, a car ride of about 9 hours. Renting the ambulance and the treatment in Dakar will cost approximately 1500-1800 Euros, we are still trying to find exact numbers. That equals 79000-95000 Gambian dalasi. Lamin has a quite good salary according to Gambian standards but with the 4285 dalasi he gets out every month it still means one and a half years salary to get his girl treated.
