Help us fight Elena’s cancer

Elena has been recovering slowly after her surgery and she has finally resumed with the chemo rounds recently.

The doctors decided to delay the chemo for a few days after Elena got some fever after the surgery. She had the routine bloods taken for cultures, however the doctors were not able to find out where her fever was coming from. It could just have been Elena's body fighting something. What's more important, her leg wound didn't appear to be infected, which was a huge relief for all of us.

After that, Elena started developing a rash, which got quickly worse after just 24 hours. The doctors thought that it was most likely related to the fever she had had previously and that it could just be viral and resolve by itself.

A few days later Elena’s rash was still prevalent, but the redness started to reduce slightly. However the doctors decided to put chemo off again and wait until they were able to confirm the reasons for this reaction. They needed to make sure that whatever this was, it wouldn't interfere with the chemo drugs.

As soon as the doctors saw that Elena's rash was pretty much gone, they decided to proceed with chemo again - it was important not to delay it any further - and she is going through the first round currently. Her tummy hurts a bit from the chemo and she is feeling quite weak, but she is fine otherwise.

Because of Elena’s rash, she will need to be monitored for any reactions to drugs in the future.

Unfortunately all the issues which have delayed the chemo rounds now, have not allowed Elena to leave the hospital and spend even one day at home and sleep in her bed for almost one month now.

This has made Elena feel a bit unhappy and sad lately, however, overall she keeps showing resilience, strength and a calm attitude. She keeps impressing us everyday with the way she is facing this very tough journey!

Elena has 3 rounds of chemo left now and we are all hoping for the best outcome after that.

We wholeheartedly appreciate your ongoing support, messages and words of encouragement. We are deeply touched by so many signs of love and generosity with our daughter.

THANK YOU ❤️

Javier, Elena and family

We have received encouraging news from the doctors today and it seems they see good progress and the signs of recovery we were all hoping for Elena.

Since the levels of pain are slowly diminishing, they are planning to take out her epidural tomorrow, so weaning her off that pain relief and onto others, less invasive painkillers.

Elena is still in the ICU, and the doctors anticipate her being there for another day or two. Her current level of fever doesn't seem to be a concern for the doctors, since kids have it normally as a reaction to surgery.

She has managed to eat something last night and this morning and so her IV drip has been taken out already.

The doctors tell us that our daughter keeps showing her usual positive attitude and strength, despite the pain she is still going through currently and after the extensive surgery on Monday.

All in all these are the news we have been hoping for Elena!

Thanks again everyone for joining our daughter's fight for cancer and for your ongoing words of encouragement and fantastic support!! The whole family deeply appreciates it!! 🙏❤️

After an 9 hour surgery yesterday, it seems that everything went according to plan.

Our daughter had to have a muscle flap, where they take part of the calf muscle and flip it up to protect the implant as there wasn’t much soft tissue at the knee area. But this shouldn't be a major issue if the recovery goes well.

Elena is since last night in the ICU, where she’ll be for a few days. She couldn't almost sleep last night due to the obvious pain and discomfort with all the tubes and machines she’s connected to, but we are hoping the pain will become more stable and she can eventually be released to the general recovery ward soon.

The surgeons say that despite the pain and discomfort Elena is going through, she has been very strong and in good spirits throughout the entire process!

Once again, a HUGE THANK YOU for all the prayers and signs of love you are sending for our daughter, the whole family is forever grateful for your ongoing support! 🙏❤️

The day we’ve all been anticipating and also feeling anxious about has finally arrived. Elena is having her surgery today, to remove the tumor and part of her knee and femur (which have been damaged by the cancer) and put in the prosthetic and a rod. As soon as she leaves the operation theatre later this eve, she will then go directly to the ICU and then on to recovery.

She will start physical therapy after the surgery and then start chemo again a week or so later.

This next month is going to be probably the hardest on Elena and also her family. We are feeling for Elena and thinking about the pain derived from her surgery and then to have chemo on top of it.

However, we are overwhelmed and blessed that our daughter keeps showing how brave and positive she remains. She was in the meeting with the surgeon to hear what will be happening and she was very relaxed and even asked if she could see the tumor after they take it out.

Very good news is also that the chemo has been working and the tumor has shrunk.

Right now we are bracing ourselves for getting confirmation later today that all has gone well with Elena's surgery and also hoping that the recovery phase will run as smooth as possible for her.

Elena and the whole family deeply feel the continuous signs of love and support from many friends and people being sent our way - something we wholeheartedly appreciate! ❤️

First of all, thank you so much to everyone for the overwhelming support and words of encouragement from friends, colleagues and even unknown people, who have decided to join our daughter in her fight with cancer. We are forever grateful for the many signs of love shown for our precious daughter!

Despite Elena's recent episodes of fever, which had delayed the chemo rounds lately, her strength and positivity continues to amaze us all.

Elena is enjoying being back at home currently and being able to spend time with family and sleeping in her bed.

We are hoping to get news regarding the arrival of Elena's prosthetic knee anytime soon, so that the doctors are able to confirm the surgery date. The great thing about this prosthetic is that it will grow with Elena and she won't have to get a replacement everytime she grows.

Again, on behalf of Elena and the entire family, we wholeheartedly thank you for all the love, thoughts and support provided so far!
