Living on an island is expensive. Rent is in the range of $1000/month for a small apartment, and for the average person one can forget about owning land. Financial freedom in this economic time is a must!
We are an artist and photographer team living in the Virgin Islands - our adventurous plan? To buy a liveaboard sailboat and park it in the harbor, detailing our exploits as we work to repair inside and out and get it ready to sail. Our plan involves learning to sail as well, but we take it one step at a time. We want to be self-sufficient and are planning on boat gardening, water makers, and solar and wind power to accomplish this. A blog will soon follow the purchase of our dream home and we expect it to be hilarious, as life after all tends to be just that.
Specifically, the boat we've had our eye on for nearly a year has come back on the market and we need additional funding soon to snap it up:
A 34 foot Dory Badger with an (almost) working engine, a mast that is upright but missing sails, and a couple leaky ports. Overall it's very moderately priced for the condition it's in and we couldn't ask for a better starter home. We hope that in asking the universe for this boat, the right person or persons will see this and share in our inspiration.
All amounts raised will go toward the boat including any amounts over what we've asked - Our helpful boating friends assure us that BOAT stands for "Bring Out Another Thousand" as most repairs and upgrades are quite expensive :-) These include: 1. an inverter to connect the solar to the batteries, 2. leaky port repair, 3. a new starter for the engine, 4. sails 5. haul out and bottom paint
UPDATE 8/25/13 - Thank you Dana, Julia and Greg! We're continuing to raise funds and the boat is still on the market!
