Campaign Story
On February 27, 2017, I was heartbroken to receive the news that my uncle, Marcos Saludes Abucejo, 59, was found lying unconscious in his house in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City. He was then rushed to the ER and was later diagnosed with Cerebrovascular Accident Hemorrhagic (Stroke: blood flow to a part of brain is stopped either by a blockage or the rupture of a blood vessel) . The family was made to decide right away to allow for an emergency Craniectomy, a neurosurgical procedure that involves removing a portion of the skull in order to relieve pressure on the underlying brain. Considering that this is a life-saving measure, the family opted for the operation regardless of the amount it would incur. It's been 16 days now since the surgical procedure and he is showing some progress. Last March 11, he underwent Tracheostomy because there is a need for prolonged respiratory or ventilator support. It may take months or maybe years for him to recover. He is currently admitted at the ICU in Polymedic Medical Plaza in Cagayan de Oro City.
Papa Marcos, as we fondly call him, is an older sibling of my mother. Just like my mum, he was born and raised in Garcia-Hernandez, Bohol to an impoverished family. Despite this, he is always in high spirits and maintains a friendly personality. He jumped from one job to another just to earn enough money to live without getting into debt until he found his passion in cooking lechon. This has become his source of livelihood since then. He is married and has 4 children and 1 grandchild.
Our family is overwhelmed by the decisions we have to make and the funds that need to be raised. We are planning to transfer him to a public hospital which would significantly reduce the daily expenses. But more often than not, it usually gets congested and securing a vacant ICU room would mean a very long wait. In the mean time, we are waiting for his vital signs to become more stable. We have already exhausted all possible means just to continue the treatment of my uncle but it's just unfortunate that our resources are limited. The family does not earn much and the national health insurance program (Philhealth) is not enough to cover the cost. I am knocking on your hearts to help us help my uncle recover.
I have set up this page for Papa Marcos to try and give him a fighting chance. We would be forever grateful for any support you are able to give. Please contact me through this site for further details and please share this site with family and friends. Thank you very much and God bless.

Dr. Co, Papa Marcos' neurosurgeon is waiting for the family's decision for him to be co-managed by another doctor who is a pulmonologist.
