Please consider donating. Even US$1 can help these poor dogs. Mary’s Doggies is a non-profit organization working hard to alleviate the terrible problem of stray dogs in Taiwan. Unfortunately, Taiwan has a huge problem with stray dogs all over the island with many of them getting caught in traps, getting abused, or suffering from the elements of living on the streets or in the mountains.

We treat each and every dog we rescue with respect and love. Many of these dogs have had a very hard time on the streets of in the mountains of Taiwan and need many months, even years of training and confidence building before they are ready for adoption. However, we don’t give up on them and help them get through their difficult times and help them find their perfect forever homes.

We rescued 6 dogs from a hoarder. This is a situation that is encountered far too often in Taiwan. The lady that “takes care” of these dogs is not capable of giving them the best care, yet she continues to take on more dogs. The makeshift shelters at a bus station are not adequate in the rain, wind and blinding sun. These dogs were kept in short leashes so they could just about get out of the cage and back in, but sometimes they would get caught up which means they weren’t able to move at all. Many of these dogs have been chained up for over 7 years, never being walked, never receiving love and never getting the proper medical care needed.

There are many people around the island like this lady both private rescuers and organizations who think it’s ok to keep an animal in a cage or on a chain for the rest of its life, “at least it’s fed” is often their reply. This is not a life. This is not a quality life. Once we saw this we were horrified as we had already visited this lady several years ago and taken up to 20 dogs from her and told her to take the rest home and stop putting dogs at this bus station. She promised she would, but never did. Now the lady is very ill and can no longer care for any of these animals.

These poor dogs have come to Mary's Doggies in a terrible state, heartworm, matted fur, fleas, bedsores, malnutrition, kidney problems, eye infections and so much more. It is so very sad that these poor babies have known nothing more than cages and chains. Lincoln has heartworm, however, he is the liveliest of the 6 dogs. He’s super friendly and loves to be hugged and give a kiss or two. We will work hard finding him a home. Lupin is very old, he has bed sores, kidney problems, immune system problems and is really on his last legs. We will give him the most comfortable life we can for the time he has left. Lyon, has always been chained up and because of this he has heartworm and bedsores. He is a little wary of people as he’s never known freedom or love. We will work with him and see how things go. Lilac is a sweet girl, but she is underweight, frail and has heartworm. She loves to be around people and wants nothing more than a little love. We’ll give her the best life possible and keep her comfortable. Lohan is an old girl with many health problems and skin problems. She is a very quiet girl and just likes to stretch her legs as this has never been possible before. Luella has been on a chain since she was 8 months old. She has never known love, comfort or freedom. She came to us matted and afraid. It’s going to take some time to get her to come out of her shell, but we’ll work with her and hopefully she can understand that she has space to roam now and people who will take proper care of her. This kind of situation breaks out hearts.

We are not really set up to take in older dogs as then they take up space that we could rescue more dogs that can find homes more easily, but how could we turn our heads from these lovely dogs in need. We will do everything we can to help them, but we really need your help. As the lady did very little medical for these dogs we have to do everything from the beginning. We need to raise a total of US$2500 to cover their medical and daily costs.

Here are the costs total for the 6 dogs:

Daily care and medication US$1000

Medical Checkup Vaccination US$300

Rabies shot US$100

Microchip US$50

Deworming US$50

Idexx SNAP test US$200

PCR Blood test PCR US$500

CBC Blood test US$100

Giardia Test US$100

Flea & Heartworm preventative US$100

Please help us. We so desperately need your help so we can help more dogs. Even US$1 can help these dogs get a second chance in life.
