Help the Children w/ Cancer at Bahay Aruga (House of Care)

Anna*,a little girl from Samar, is suffering from leukemia and currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at the Philippine General Hospital. Like most outpatients coming from far provinces, Anna spends the night on the pavement of the hospital and sleeps on carton while undergoing treatment. PGH does not have enough facility to accommodate them all due to high volume of patients.

Anna is just one of the many pediatric cancer patients whose family has no means of acquiring a decent accommodation due to lack of money. The little money they have is just enough for them to travel to Manila from their province, as far as from Visayas and Mindanao. They barely have enough for their food.

Seeing the problem, the Bahay Aruga (House of Care) was established in 2014 to ease the burden of pediatric cancer patients by providing them with free basic needs and temporary accommodation while undergoing chemotherapy at PGH. This serves as a free halfway house for patients, like Anna, who do not have the financial capability for accommodation or travel regularly between PGH and their province.

To lighten the burden they carry, we will hold a small party for these children on June 4, 2017. Activities will involve clown performers, games, and gift-giving. Aside from lightening the emotional suffering of these children, we also want to help them financially for their expenses during medication. Aside from their day-to-day expenses, seeking medications in this condition is not free at all at PGH. Thus, we invite you to help us raise funds by donating any amount. All donations that will be gathered in this drive will be given to the patients’ parents as well as to Bahay Aruga for its operations. As we promise to be transparent, we will issue financial statement to account all donations coming in and to whom it was given.

The children in Bahay Aruga play, run, laugh, giggle, and cry like normal children. But they are all fighting a dreaded enemy-- cancer. Let’s make this world a better place by helping those who are helpless—especially the children—who are so full of dreams.
