This is a project started by few refugees residing in Kakuma refugee camp, currently hosting more than 200,000 refugees. All more than 90% of the community members in Kakuma refugee camp do not have a reliable source of income because it's not allowed in Kenya for refugees to have work permit. So most of these refugees are dependent in family members abroad or the food ration which UNHCR provides once in every month.
So me and some few members of our community works online as a freelancer so that we can provide the most basic things to ourselves and our family members. I work as a transcriber for some online platforms like Speechpad, Rev and Upwork and also my friends work on the same platform but in different skills.
We are now planning to establish our own platform that'll be run by refugees for refugees. We hope it'll create a reliable source of income not only to Kakuma refugees, but to all refugees in the world who does have access to internet, yet do not have a work condition. The platform will include a training section to introduce refugees to the world of Freelancing, an easy to use transcribing platform and also Academic research writing work station. We will add more type of freelancing as we grow up in numbers and find other talents.
We require the amount requested to be funded to create that tailored platform. We need to register the platform and also buy domain. We will also need to have a secured platform that'll make refugees to be paid on our platforms very safe. We know our dream will grow to show the world that refugees are simply like any other person who were forced to leave their communities due to many reasons.
