Help Randy Regain His Eyesight

I am losing my sight due to advanced brunescent cataracts. My visual acuity is 20/150, you are blind at 20/200. I have a strange eye condition - one eye is nearsighted and the other is farsighted. This requires multiple surgeries to correct.

I was a premature baby, because of this I have had vision problems my whole life. It was not until I was 10 years old that they discovered that my eyes were not the same as he had trouble seeing in school. The eye doctors discovered that one eye was farsighted and the other eye was near sighted. I had trouble seeing in school no matter where I sat, front, middle or rear of the class. As you can imagine it made learning difficult. Now later in life I have developed the following eye problems: brunescent cataracts, presbyopia and astigmatism.

A brunescent, or brown, cataract is often correlated with the maturity of a cataract and can cause decreased visual acuity. Brunescent cataracts can cause poor contrast and color discrimination and are very advanced nuclear cataracts that have become brown and opaque. Brunescent cataracts can cause poor contrast and color discrimination, this presents many challenges in just daily living, I often have to bring someone with me to read prices on food items for example. I can only go outside at certain times of the day because of glare and if I wear sunglasses I don’t see very much at all.

Astigmatism is an imperfection in the curvature of your cornea the clear, round dome covering the eye’s iris and pupil or in the shape of the eye’s lens. Normally, the cornea and lens are smooth and curved equally in all directions, helping to focus light rays sharply onto the retina at the back of your eye. However, if your cornea or lens isn’t smooth and evenly curved, light rays aren’t refracted properly. This is called a refractive error.

When the cornea has an irregular shape, it is called corneal astigmatism. When the shape of the lens is distorted, you have lenticular astigmatism. As a result of either type of astigmatism, your vision for both near and far objects appears blurry or distorted.

Multiple surgeries will be required as they will only operate on one eye at a time and will only proceed with the other operations once that eye has healed before they start on the other operations. This will require many trips to the hospital. The length of stay will only be known at the time of the operation so I have to have sufficient funds to cover these costs if they arise.

My insurance will not cover the operations required because it is a “pre existing condition”. As stated earlier my visual acuity is 20/150. I can not drive a car so I will have to hire a taxi for all my trips to the hospital. This is going to be expensive as I live 50 km from the hospital.
