Campaign Story
Help Promising High School Researchers Present Studies and Compete in Connecticut, USA
These researchers from poor families have extracted biofuel from jackfruit seeds and successfully used calamansi peelings to fight drought.
The Researchers
The researchers are 14-year-old Grade 9 students of Batasan Hills National High School, a public school whose students come mostly from low-income families. They belong to the school’s Science, Technology, and Engineering Program where only the brightest are enrolled.
The 2017 Globe Program
The Globe Program has accepted the abstracts of their researches on extracting biofuel from jackfruit seeds and using calamansi peelings to fight drought. The students will present their studies during the Students’ Research Exhibition to be held in Connecticut, USA from July 30 to August 3, 2017.
For these researchers, the trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about the latest scientific researches and to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in science. It will give them a keener insight into science research. it will afford them the chance to interact with scientists and researchers from other countries.
Why Help Them
These students belong to the toughest program in their school where only the best and the brightest are accepted. But participating in research exhibitions abroad is not included in their school’s budget. Since they all come from poor families, they do not have the means to pay for their trip to Connecticut. So, they need help.
The trip to Connecticut can make these students better researchers. It can also inspire other students from public schools to pursue research work. These researchers can all help make our world a better place to live in.
