Kumusta from the Philippines!
I hope anyone reading this is in a good place. I am John Nicole Morales, the son of Josie Morales and I am asking for help for my mom's surgery. My mom is 54 years of age and was recently diagnosed with Pott's disease (tuberculosis in the spine) which rendered the lower half of her body deprived of sensation and incapable of movement. The worsening of her health and the progression of her disease has been rapid for the past three weeks. She started with difficulty breathing and severe back pains around June 30th, to numb her legs, then to paralysis of her lower body. She was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the bone and needs to undergo spine surgery, Laminectomy on T6 (Thoracic vertebrae), and pedicle screw instrumentation and infusion on T4 to T8 (Thoracic vertebrae). While writing this, she's currently confined in a government hospital, National Kidney and Transplant Institute at East Ave, Diliman, Quezon City, 1101 Metro Manila. The given initial date of surgery is on July 29, 2023, but since we're unable to secure the payment with a total quotation of ₱ 470,000 ($8559.77 USD), it was postponed.
For the past three weeks, we've been moving from hospital to hospital due to our limited financial status since I am the only one earning within a family of five and we recently just overcame a family health emergency; my youngest sibling has been diagnosed with eye cataracts at an early age and has been undergoing operations and taking medications, and my oldest sibling recently had his lungs drained of fluid due to tuberculosis. Such events have been affecting their capacity to find a source of income thus, our family's financial status, therefore, rendering our family incapable of paying the required amount for my mom's surgery to push through. Which extends the physical pain that she's been going through, and for us, her sons, mental and emotional stress seeing our mom suffer from this disease.
Before getting the disease, my mom was an active church member and Sunday school teacher. Even in sickness, she's still looking forward to returning and meeting her students in the Sunday school. She still thinks of their well-being as she treats them as her own children. Her being away and missing out on having time with the kids from the ministry only pains her more.
