Hi everyone! I am Danica Aguilar, 23 years of age I am an only child who grew up with one parent, my mom. Both of us live with my grandmother and to give you an initial background about our situation right now, I am really confronted with a problem that I can’t do it alone and my grandma is already 76 years old. I am humbly taking this opportunity to share my story with you since this is one of the solutions that I can think of. Here it goes.

Recently my mom, Christine Aguilar 53 years old, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Endometrium Cancer – a cancer in the uterus. My Mother is everything to me, she also stands to be my father and a sibling too since my dad past away 17 years ago leaving me and my mom both alone. A single mother for many years is obviously not easy, she raised me by working in a direct selling company which eventually closed before I graduated high school. But, despite that she was still able to give her support and enrolled me to a prestigious school by joining to different networking companies, selling life plan insurances, and a lot of other ways just to let me finish school. I always hear these words through my mind with her voice saying, “We are not rich”, this has taught me a lot about life’s challenges, it helped me grew appreciating little things and being practical in spending my money.

Now, it is high time for me to give back all the sacrifices that she had done for me. My current job is working in a hotel here in Cebu as a receptionist compensated with a little bit above minimum wage, yet I was able to pay our monthly bills giving my mom the chance to save the small income that she has.

Both of us have always dreamed of having our own house many years ago which we haven’t accomplished it yet. So, I have been working so hard and saving parsimoniously at the same time in order for me to make our dream into a reality. Unfortunately, as time goes by, there are just things we couldn’t expect to happen and these things are part in human struggles. In July 2019, she had a random spotting discharge and abdominal pain that started bothering here since she already had her menopause 3 years ago. She went to an OB-GYN and was advised to undergo an ultrasound diagnosis. After she did, they found out that the lining of her uterus was too thick already, about 4cm. The doctor then advised us to have it removed immediately suspecting it to be a diagnosed cancer. By this, expenses were made to a private doctor, in a private hospital. After, we decided to go to different doctors to gather more opinions about the presumed cancer diagnosis since we still haven’t found that certain amount of money that our first doctor told us to prepare before doing the surgery on my mom.

After looking for second opinion, the second doctor assisted my mom with a Pap smear test and found out that the vagina of my mom had a mask already, so he advised us to have it checked through biopsy procedure in order to identify what kind of mask was seen in her vagina. A week passed by, the second doctor confirmed that my mom had endometrium cancer and referred us to a Gynecologic oncologist for further treatment. The Gynecologic Oncologist Doctor confirmed that my mom is already experiencing a stage 4 diagnosed cancer. The doctor said she must take several laboratories to check if she is already compatible to have a chemotherapy treatment.

Currently, my mom has urinal infections and she is still under observation for a week or so before undergoing a chemotherapy treatment.

I am praying that these challenges will make me learn not to give up because I know this will make me stronger as a person. But, this is just too big for me when it comes to financial matters. That is why I am here to humbly ask the generosity and sympathy to help me ensure my mom that she can concentrate her energy more on her treatment rather than the expenses we will be having. Also, I am reaching out to all of my friends and family to try and help us raise the funds needed for her medication. May it reach into your hearts and help us fight the predicament we are in so she can be healthy and happy again. Even if you aren’t able to spare any money, a second or two in sharing our story in the hopes that others might be able to help will be very much appreciated. I learned that asking for financial help isn’t easy, but the gravity of the situation has made it necessary to seek all the help I can get. Thank you and God Bless you all.
