Hello nice people,
my name is Gorgui Ba. As many of you know, I have been working in the Ngor Island Surf Camp in Dakar for 5 years now. I’m living with my whole family of which I’m the eldest. I have a daughter who is 8 years old and visiting the third grade of primary school which I’m very proud of.
While working in the Surf Camp, I frankly never had any particular financial problem to sort out my personal needs and those of my family. But with the beginning of Covid-19, which has caused the closure of the airport for tourists for one year already, our work is completely affected to the point of sending the staff to unemployment because all of our guests came from other continents. Of course I tried to get an other job but companies are not recruiting new employees at the moment.
So I am in an unprecedented financial situation that is very difficult for me and extremely worrying for those who depend on me. As you might know, in African families most of the time it's one or two people working to take care of others. In my case, I was the only person in my family who had a full time job and currently I am in unemployment.
Besides the heavy family expenses - such as water, electricity, food and so on - that I need to pay, education is is something that’s very important to me. Therefore I’m paying for my daughters schooling, so she can get a better education and I am also financing my two cousin’s studies since 2016. They are in university and still depend on me to continue their studies normal.
As everybody else I don't know when things will return to normal after Covid-19, so finding an alternative source of income to keep my family in good conditions becomes an obligation.
Not to sink into extreme poverty, faced with this situation, I have found no other way than to ask for your financial aid in order to open a little business. Your support will help me so that I can open a grocery store that will allow me to earn my living with dignity. My main objective is to create a family project where everyone can find their account.
In order to reach this goal, I will need €7.200 which are composed as follows:
€370 in advance for the store rental
€390 to buy a delivery motorcycle as we are in a pandemic period to avoid gatherings in the shop
€6.440 for the purchase of shelves and of 2 freezers as well for the sale of chicken and for the purchase of goods
I am a breadwinner, if I fall a lot of people will fall after me. Your support will help me get up and keep my dignity.
When the pandemic is over and people can travel to Senegal again, I am looking forward to see all of you again and hopefully show you around our grocery store!
Thank you in advance and all the best for you!
