Help me realize my time as a volunteer in Nicaragua

Hey everybody!

My name is Anna and I am a student from Germany. My subject is 'early childhood education' and in summer I want to implement my practical part of the studies as a volunteer in Nicaragua. There I'll be working in a kindergarten for children of deprived families .

Nicaragua is the second poorest country in Central America. Widespread unemployment or low financial resources have significant effects on the education level in the country. Many families still cannot afford to send their children to child care centre or even to school. In Nicaragua going to school is a privilege which involves high costs (school uniform, fees, supplies). Even with sponsorships for educational and learning materials a lot of children are still not attending school because they work to supplement their family's income. The result: a population with low education levels (30-40% illiteracy) and very few career prospects for the young and a rising criminality rate.

So it became my wish to take part in helping those kids to achieve a possibility to education.
