I have been chosen to receive the Italian Government MAECI Scholarship on July 21st, 2023. There will be changes to the amount needed to raise as well as its particular. Assalamualaikum and hello everyone!

My name is Durrah and I am 25 years old. I am currently an offer holder for a Master's in European and Global Studies at the University of Padua, Italy and will be starting my program this October. Due to my outstanding achievement as an undergraduate, the university has funded 60% of the costs I would need to study there. However, I still need that 40% to make this dream come true!

I really need your support because I come from a B40 (Bottom 40%) family in Malaysia with a family income of just MYR2200/month. My father is the only breadwinner as my mother is a person with disabilities (PWD) on welfare and I have a younger brother still in school. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my father has used up his EPF funds to sustain our lives until he finally got a job in 2023. On our own, my family cannot afford to send me abroad but my father would like to see me go as I am the only child to graduate from university in the family.

The reason this Master's is important to me professionally is because during my undergraduate, I have developed a niche in security studies in the Southeast Asian region. I never realised my potential as a researcher until my second year thanks to the support of my lecturers. I enjoy researching the region and its international relations and security issues. Southeast Asia is dynamic and interesting and I want to keep discovering the region and understand how I can contribute to make it better. The path towards being an academician is one that I want to pursue and it will be difficult to do so without a Master's Degree.
