Help Me Attend the MIT – HMS Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp!!

My name is Valentina Quiroga Fonseca, a young physicist and geoscientist, recently graduated from Colombia’s top tier Universidad de Los Andes as a scholar of the university’s academic excellence scholarship program Quiero Estudiar. Last year I attended the Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business (HUWIB – IBC) program thanks to an excellence grant awarded by the Women For Colombia Foundation. After meeting scientists who debuted and succeeded in fields such as innovation, entrepreneurship and biotechnology, I decided to pursue a career in scientific entrepreneurship, a field that is very underdeveloped in my country, especially for women scientists like myself. This year, I was admitted to represent Colombia at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) - HMS (Harvard Medical School) Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp after three sets of interviews.

The Healthcare Innovation Bootcamp is a prestigious training program for entrepreneurs that will take place in Cambridge, MA, USA from June 15th to 21st, 2019. I will have the opportunity to learn how to manage scientific developments in the biotechnology and healthcare industries from professors from two of world’s most prestigious universities. I will learn strategies for knowledge transfer, value creation and public and private sector innovation. I will also receive vital training in both hard and soft skills that break all the academic world’s conventional stereotypes.

In getting involved with the MIT-HMS community, I am working to be a part of a scientific revolution that directly solves vital health issues and improves the quality of life of others, not just publish articles that aim to do so. I truly believe this revolution starts with transforming scientists into entrepreneurs. I will learn to transform scientific results into tangible outputs that can generate the knowledge demand needed to achieve Colombia’s sustainable economic development. My primary goal is to develop healthcare solutions for the most prevalent healthcare problems in Colombia’s most vulnerable populations.

However, this program has a cost of 8,500 USD, and I must make a contribution of 2,000 USD in the next few days to secure my quota. Unfortunately, without financial support it will be impossible for me to enroll and participate in the Bootcamp.
