The problem: being an immigrant
They do not speak the language fluently, feeling criticized and judged by everyone makes immigrants sad and insecure. Feelings of guilt, the pain of the past, negative feelings and anxiety of an uncertain future makes that some immigrants lose self-esteem and the desire to interact with others eventually close themselves.
Making new habits in order to overcome these hardships and Feeling loved, serene, really like each other, enjoy good health, to have more harmonious a family and sentimental life , a more satisfying job, surround yourself with true friends, have more time free and achieve financial well-being.
What I’m trying to do is to help and support immigrants to integrate in a new country through my personal experiences and education. I have written a book and designed some courses. One is specifically designed for immigrants and there I share with them all the things I’ve learn and done to blend into my new culture.
I will help people in two ways:
1st. Through my autobiographical book which inspires people about how possible it is to overcome such difficulties. My intention through my story is to awaken the desire to dream and to achieve in the reader, to persevere the ability to fight, the hope to improve yourself more and more. My mission is to awaken the awareness of taking responsibility for one’s life and turn from the weakening question "why?" to the empowering question: "how do I do it?"- in everyone
"The flight of the hummingbird" My success, my happiness begins with a beat of wings (I've done the italian and spanish version)
2nd. Through free workshops and courses about how to handle emotions, thinkings and behaviors.
The funds will be used for
- Translation of the book into English which name will be “The flight of hummingbird”
- Print as many copies ofthe book as gifts in free workshops
- Hold free workshop at least once a week
- Keep free course online and offline at least once a month (The name of the course is “Successfully Integrate”)
- Print textbooks for the course
- Raising awareness of the project in schools, colleges, associations, churches, businesses where there are immigrants
- Advertising this initiative in radio, TV, newspapers so that all foreigners come to know that there is a real place to learn how to integrate

- Create and keep a Youtube channel through which I can share some tips on what to do and how to integrate into a new country and live happily while they are away from home
Who Am I
From simple cleaning lady I became mental trainer of thousands of people.
My name is Paulina Alexandra Obando Acosta and I'm really happy to share with you the biggest dream of my life which is help immigrants to integrate in a new country. Why? Because as an immigrant I know how hard it is to blend in a new culture and there’s nobody who teaches you how to be accepted and welcomed. I come from a wonderful country that is located in the middle of the world: Ecuador. I’m the author of the book: "Il Volo del Colibrì” (The Flight of the Hummingbird") by which I send a message of hope, faith and pragmatism in the lives of the readers.
Thirteen years ago I moved to Italy, where I thought I could find a job easily. But it was not so. Even though I had a degree as a Travel Guide and spoke three languages: Spanish, English and Italian it was useless. The change of culture, language, manners, habits and food made me insecure, feeling ugly and fat as a woman and full of fears. I also felt judged and humiliated because I did not speak Italian well. I was sad and dissatisfied with my life. I started my career by cleaning bathrooms and taking care of children and old people. So, step by step, with patience, humility and perseverance I faced difficulties, finding confidence in myself. Fortunately, one day a friend of mine gave me a personal-growth book : “How to wind friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie. From that day I have always been reading books and attending personal development trainings. Today, I’m a trainer and, thanks to a multi-year international education, with the best experts of Personnel and Managerial Development from all over the world, I have been putting into practice everything I learned and now I can coach people to help their minds achieve their goals.
I'm really happy to share the actions that have helped me to improve my life with other people. The actions that have helped me to integrate myself in a new culture, to lose fear, to love myself for whom I was. My biggest dream, the mission of my life is to help people to be happier and I'm sure that with your help, I will be able to improve the lives of many and certainly some of them will be happy to have us met.
It means a lot to me because I know that so many people suffer in silence and alone, and many do not even ask for help (like I used to do) . Thanks to this project, the lives of these people can change and they can eventually be happy, or at least they can see a small light at the end of the tunnel.
I want tothank youwith all my heartfor the time invested in reading my words.
The sooner will come your help as sooner I can start doing things with greater speed.
Thanks you for making my dream come true.
I want to dismiss you with this fairy tale:
One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest – a huge woodlands was suddenly engulfed by a raging wild fire. Frightened, all the animals fled their homes and ran out of the forest. As they came to the edge of a stream they stopped to watch the fire and they were feeling very discouraged and powerless. They were all bemoaning the destruction of their homes. Every one of them thought there was nothing they could do about the fire, except for one little hummingbird. This particular hummingbird decides it would do something. It swooped into the stream and picked up a few drops of water and went into the forest and put them on the fire. Then it went back to the stream and did it again, and it kept going back, again and again and again. All the other animals watched in disbelief; some tried to discourage the hummingbird with comments like, “Don’t bother, it is too much, you are too little, your wings will burn, your beak is too tiny, it’s only a drop, you can’t put out this fire”.
And as the animals stood around disparaging the little bird’s efforts, the bird notices how hopeless and forlon they looked. Then one of the animals shouted out and challenged the hummingbird in a mocking voice. “What do you think you are doing?” And the hummingbird, without wasting time or losing a beat, looked back and said, “I am doing what I can”.
A big big hub and smile!
