Rescuers searched for survivors through the night after Tuesday's
powerful earthquake shook Mexico City and surrounding states, killing
scores and leaving many trapped under collapsed buildings. At least 216
people died in Mexico City -- the country's capital -- and in the states
of Puebla, Mexico and Morelos, officials said. Previously, authorities
had said that as many as 248 people had died.
I am starting this fund to raise money to directly donate to 3 Public Relief organizations currently trying to assist and rehabilitate the populace.
All proceeds will go to the following three organizations involved in the relief efforts in Mexico. These organizations have been independently vetted by various news organizations, and relief workers on the ground as people doing critical relif work.
1) www.fondounido.org.mx. (Fondo Unido México) Part of the United Way network, has created an emergency fund to help the areas affected by the earthquakes as well as the recent series of hurricanes.
2) www.directrelief.org. A humanitarian aid organization, has staff members in Mexico City and has pledged that 100 percent of its donations will go directly to relief efforts, which it says will include facilitating the delivery of medical supplies to affected areas.
3)International Community Foundation (ICF) seeks to increase charitable giving and volunteerism across U.S. borders to benefit overseas communities and nonprofit organizations. ICF's vision is to become a respected national leader in promoting effective internationally-focused community philanthropy through our grant making, programs, research, and donor educational services benefiting nonprofits in Mexico.
Thank you everyone for your generosity,
About the Organizer and more information about the campaign:
My name is Helene Unrau, a professional teacher working in Bonn, Germany. My entire family is in Mexico city, and I did my undergraduate education there as well. I am trying to do what little I can merely facilitating and channeling funds from other countries towards this cause. I narrowed down on the list of places to donate to from various verified news sources, and through my friends who are actually involved in relief work on the ground in Mexico.
I have 3 organizations listed above, and the funds will be equally divided among all three, and I will be performing a wire transfer through XOOM, or make payments to the raised amount via my debit account once the campaign closes. The funds once made available to the NGO's listed above, will then further be utilized by them to provide relief, and buy supplies for people on the ground.
