Help Fund a Power Chair for Petra

Dear friends, family and possible supporters,

I lost the most wonderful, kindest and most loving person I have ever known to cancer with only a few weeks between the diagnosis and her passing: my beloved mom. With her in my life almost everything I set my mind to seemed possible and so much of it came true.

Now I need you - friends, family, the disability community and its allies to improve my quality of life as a full time wheelchair user.

I need a particular power chair to be able to go on long walks, to go on small trips with friends, to gain more mobility in general when it comes to doctors or physiotherapy appointments or visits to restaurants, stores or museums, for example.

Why this power chair?

This chair will help give me the freedom of movement my mother only dreamed of for me. I already did a test drive and can confirm:

• This power chair can be used on a wide variety of surfaces, it even masters loose gravel easily. Imagine that, fellow wheelchair users.
• Compared to most power chairs it is narrow and light weight and therefore easy to use for me, the ride feels absolutely safe due to the carbon seat.
• The chair has three wheels, thick tires and shock absorption to make rides surprisingly smooth. A big advantage when It comes to my sometimes excruciating physical pain.
• This particular power chair fits well in the trunk of the car and is not as heavy as other power chairs. It can even be loaded into the car without a ramp or other modifications to the car.
• It fits into many elevators, I can use it in stores, museums, cinemas and so on or hotels when on vacation.

Why do I need your help?

Being deeply wounded by my mom’s sudden passing I don’t have the spoons to fight with any authorities over the cost for a power chair which is not registered as mobility aid in Germany and thus not covered by health insurance. I learned this lesson very hard lately. I can tell you that. And not being able to turn to my beloved mom for any advice or support anymore I need to turn friends, family, to the disability community and its allies to help me buy this power chair.
