Help the burning animals of Greece 🙏

Hello everyone,

I am in Greece at the moment and having a very hard time seeing my home burn to the ground... I've had difficulty sleeping and when I do I cry myself to sleep... I live in the UK but I am Greek, born and raised here...

In 2012 my family and I had to evacuate our house with our 3 dogs, eldest disabled cat, our then tiny sick baby kitten and 3 of us in one car. You could see the flames from the balcony, they were moving extremely fast towards our area. My sister and I rushed to ths garden and started wetting the ground in a panic, my parents were gathering the animals and opening a doors and windows for the more able cats to escape and then the entire village fled down to the square by the sea. We waited there the whole day until it was ok to go back. People were awake all night in case one of the remaining small fires started up again. It was terrifying...

In the past week alone there have been 100+ fires burning all over Greece, people have lost their homes, so many animals have burnt and died and there are barely any forests left... Everything is so dry due to the insane temperatures too. Our prime minister could not care less, in various statements he and his party have declared this battle so far a victory as no human lives have been lost, completely disregarding all the animals, the wildlife, the forests!! The left over 100 horses to burn because the police didn't allow the people to go inside and free them!! Sheperd's were unable to lead all their sheep to safety... A helpless dog didn't manage to get out... And so many more, thousands more!! Heartless 💔...

It's not the fault of the police though. They are following orders and doing their job. It would be their responsibility of anything went wrong. The core problem is the fact that this country doesn't recognise animal rescue groups as First Aid. The same way ambulances can get theough the police road blocks, animal rescue teams should be allowed to do so too by law!! But sadly that's not the case, so as citizens we need to find ways to help alone...

These fires (though some may as well be wildfires or caused by accidents) are usually deliberate in order to clear the land and build. Explosive devices have been found in the areas of the two latest fires in Attiki. Please, everyone (doesn't matter where you are) help us force this utterly useless, selfish and corrupt government pass a law that doesn't allow any burnt land to be used for anything else other than reforestation!! It needs to become law!! It takes 30 seconds to sign and share the petition!

Also, I am trying to gather money to give to the wildlife and animal rescue organisations. I went up to Varibobi (Βαρυμπόμπη) and witnessed the disaster first hand. I also sent 2 massive bags of dried food and and loads of bandages and medical supplies for rescued and burnt animals up there. These alone cost us 100€ and we're going to need more.

Any donation would be so greatefully appreciated, this is for a cause so close to my heart and I will try and do whatever I can to help! Even if that means staying in Greece for longer than planned or spending a fortune to help these animals.
