Good day, my name is Roman delos Santos, some of you also know me as Butch. This story is about my daughter Piper’s battle with Pulmonary Valve Stenosis (PVS). My daughter, who is very active, talkative and super energetic has been diagnosed with mild pulmonary heart valve stenosis in 2017 and has progressed to moderate-severe in 2018. Left untreated, it will lead to heart enlargement and eventually heart failure.

What is Pulmonary Valve Stenosis? It is a congenital defect that occurs due to abnormal development of the fetal heart during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy and at times may only be detected at a later age.

With pulmonary stenosis, problems with the pulmonary valve make it harder for the heart leaflets to open and permit normal blood flow from the right side of the heart to the lungs in a normal fashion.

Left untreated, she can easily get bacterial infections that can worsen the condition of the heart valve (as common as cough and colds maybe - it can also be bacterial and we have to also watch out for these for her). She can also have pumping problems that can make her heart weak and stiff. This can eventually lead to heart failure.

She is set to have her balloon valvuloplasty ion May 2. We were told that the earlier we do this, the more successful and less risky it is for the child. We were informed that we need as much as 500,000PHP ($10,000) for this procedure.

UPDATE: My daughter completed the surgery and is recovering back at home. The initial assessment looks good and we are looking forward to a favorable lab results this coming week.

My wife and I diligently saved emergency funds as we have been advocates of being prepared in case situations like these arise. We are exploring all options available to make this happen for Piper. We are eager to raise the funds she needs the best way we know how, as much as possible work for it and earn it from the merchandise/services we are offering/selling from Piper’s Corner and from our salary. But despite our savings, medical insurance and all, we do not have enough.

We sincerely ask for your assistance in funding for the procedure. We really thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we very much appreciate your generosity.
