Hello po! My name is Sean Rupert Duban Dupa. I am 14 years old and I am from Davao City. My family is going through tough times and I want to do what I can to help, by asking you for help.

I thought of making this fundraiser since I don't really have anything to lose if I do ask help from kind hearted people like you, but your help could bring us closer to our goal, and could give us the opportunity to have more priceless memories with a loved one to me and my family.

(This was during his 1st admission)

This is all because Daddy-Lo (what my family and I call my grandfather) got sick back in August 2018. Within two months, he was in and out of the hospital and was in the ICU for three weeks. He has gone through hyperthyroidism, severe ulcers, hospital acquired and aspiration pneumonia, a mild heart attack, chronic kidney disease, and times where we thought that he was going back home with God. This has given my family and I, an on going journey for more than a year now. Our journey has taught me how strong my family’s love is, how blessed I am for being healthy, and to always have faith in God and by His amazing grace, our difficult journey is nearing its end. It gives me hope that all the days I’ve spent visiting Daddy-Lo’s hospital room after school, seeing him eat through an NGT for months, and him not being able to walk yet, are almost finished! My family and I are so happy to see him improve and recover so much from when he was first in hospital. We’ve really started seeing his lively and active personality from when he was okay, and we were really grateful to the Lord because of how He stood with our family in our times of need. But just as we start to have our normal lives again, we found out that there was one last giant challenge that my family and I have to face.

(A few months after his hospitalization and a few weeks after finishing Physical Therapy)

A few months ago, Daddy-Lo po was diagnosed with Severe Aortic Stenosis. Though his heart function is very good at 73%, he has a deteriorating valve that needs to be replaced. Which is why he urgently needs this procedure called a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation or TAVI for short. This is a less invasive and highly effective procedure done for high risk patients like him. This is the only way we can cure his Severe Aortic Stenosis. My family and I need around P2,500,000 for his procedure and hospital accommodation. We also have to travel from our home here in Davao City to Manila because the operation is only done in St. Luke's Medical Center. Back when he was first diagnosed, Daddy-lo was still asymptomatic. Sad to say, this isn’t the case anymore. You see, my family and I weren't able to produce enough funds for his TAVI before he was showing any symptoms. Although My family and I really wanted and tried to go through with his procedure, we really couldn't produce the funds for it as quickly as he was still not showing any symptoms since my family was really financially exhausted at the time due to his hospitalisation and months and months of his monthly medications, regular checkups and laboratories, and occupational and physical therapy. It was all worth it though, seeing Daddy-Lo getting better was priceless. Although his Severe Aortic Stenosis was not getting better because the only thing that is able to cure this is his TAVI.

(This was during his current hospitalization)

As expected, he started showing symptoms of his Severe Aeortic Stenosis a few weeks ago, particularly his congestion. Because of this, he needed to be admitted to the hospital so that these symptoms would not worsen. We found out that during his admission, he had a second heart attack and he underwent an angiogram with angioplasty which improved his artery to prevent him from having more heart attacks. But the care given to him at the hospital is only short term though and really expensive because he has been staying at the ICU for almost a month now so that he would be closely monitored and could be given immediate response whenever he has difficulty breathing because of his congestion which is a result of his Severe Aortic Stenosis. It isn’t possible for us to prevent his heart getting worse if we aren’t able to push through with his TAVI. Even his doctors said that there would be a good outcome if he undergoes his TAVI, not only will it cure his Severe Aortic Stenosis, it will also improve the function of his other organs. But aside from the P2,500,000 we need to raise, we also need to come up with P1,500,000 for our unsettled hospital bills from his current hospitalisation.

As his grandson, I want to do my absolute best to do what I can to help in raising funds to make Daddy-Lo's TAVI possible. In all my years, I have lived with him and I know well that he deserves another shot at life. He has fought so hard since the first time he was hospitalised and in the past few weeks. As someone who's seen him smiling at his worst, I can really say that he is strong and determined to have more priceless moments with his loved ones. But all his effort, all my mom's sleepless nights and time away from me, all the times when I couldn't hold back my tears in random places when I heard about his worsening condition, and all of the money my family have spent for him, might all be wasted if he doesn't undergo his TAVI. Without help from kind people like you, it would really be impossible for us to go through his procedure as soonly as he need it. Any help from you would really go a long way. I hope my little initiative to help Daddy-Lo by reaching out to people who could possibly help, would make a big difference for us. Thank you so much!
