Campaign Story
Please help us to raise money for Joseph to start a business selling eggs.
Joseph is a professional photographer from the Western province of Sefwi, Ghana.
Like in other third world countries, The majority of Ghanaians are very poor. Most people rely on small businesses to survive. However, because of the necessary restrictions that have been imposed due to COVID-19, many of these have not been able to function any more.
Before COVID-19, Joseph used to rely on celebrations and gatherings for his income. Now these have been discontinued and people rarely if ever need his services as a photographer.
Like in other places, one of the most secure ways to earn a livelihood in Ghana is now by selling food.
Joseph is trying to get his own business off the ground: He will be delivering eggs to the local population, and earning a modest profit.
In order to start his business he needs money to buy enough eggs to be credible, both with his supplier and with his potential customers. In order to get enough eggs he has to travel by bus to the nearest big city (Kumasi) to a poultry farmer who has a big enough supply of eggs available. To begin with he will buy a few hundred eggs and try and sell them in the following few days. When he becomes known as the local egg supplier, he will be able to buy more at a time and reduce the travel costs of going to Kumasi. However, he will also need to buy a fridge in order to store the eggs. The money we need to raise has to cover the cost of the eggs, Joseph's travel costs and the cost of a fridge, before he will be able to start living off the profit he makes.
Thankyou so much for donating to this cause!
