Heat for our local Vivarium

Although we were officially born as a nonprofit association in 2017, we (RO) Asociaţia Matei şi Prietenii/(ENG) Matthew and Friends Association) are planting good seeds in our community for the past 4-5 years. We are very involved in the young veterinary community where we are sustaining it with special bursaries and programs for veterinary students and special events like seminars, congresses and workshops for junior veterinarians, focusing on providing them access to quality education.

On the other hand, we organised in June 2018 our first edition of Run for Wildlife Romania -a charitable running event, where we supported our local and national wildlife nonprofit associations and we will definitely do it again in 2019!

We also find joy in planting green projects for our next generations and getting the local schools involved in our projects. We have created our Vivarium in 2017 because we wanted to improve the life of abandoned exotic animals and also to raise awareness about it, but only in 2018 we managed to go public, organizing our first exhibition "International Bat Night" where we had a photo exhibition, 6 audio stations where kids could listen and learn about Romanian bat species and of course a play station for them.

And this is why we are here. Our Vivarium gathers more than 20 exotics animal species (most of them were donated) and a special exotic rescue wing (small mammals). Our open hours schedule is only during the weekend, when we have available volunteers. Our main activity is sustained from donations and/or sponsorship and like in any other nonprofit association, you always need support for your projects. Living in a small city in the mountain area it gets cold right at the end of summer and we practically need to install a gas heater station asap, to warm up the 130mp of our Vivarium. Our current way to heat up the space is by using electricity which is very expensive and not that efficient. We already improved the over night conditions for our reptiles but it clearly not enough. A gas heating system will help us maintain 20C 24/24, improving the quality of life of our furry friends and personnel.
