Medical Educators for Latin America is raising funds to help build a much needed health clinic in Quiroga-Aiquile, Bolivia. This is a rural community in dire need of a new comprehensive health center. The clinic will be constructed by Mano a Mano Bolivia (www.manoamano.org) and community workers. Once completed it will provide quality healthcare to rural Bolivians who have limited access to medical care. The construction and stocking of this facility will allow an entire community to receive medical and dental care, receive preventive health care measures that will reduce the terrible outcomes associated with common but untreated illnesses, and decrease maternal and infant mortality. The community of Quiroga-Aiquile and the surrounding area has a population of 5500 people in great need of a comprehensive care center. The closest healthcare facility is 25 kilometers away. The current health post is wholly inadequate to provide quality medical, dental or obstetric care and desperately needs to be replaced. Chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and severe arthritis in many cases go untreated and lead to early complications and premature and preventable death.
