HamPiatraNeamt - Romanian Animal Rescue Project

The HamPiatraNeamt project was born in 2016 from an idea, more a necessity, of Stefania Timofte and Davide Majola. The need was to help the abandoned dogs and cats in the Speranța district (Piatra Neamt), where we had recently moved, because we couldn't find a rented apartment that could accommodate a dog and a cat.

Besides us two, 5 other people joined the team with whom we shared our journey for a year until we parted in August 2017, which then led to the birth of the project "Community of Animal Lovers in Neamt".

Staying alone again, we chose to continue our project anyway and in 2018 we managed to formalize it by integrating it into the Youth For Neamt Association which, in addition to activities with animals, is also distinguished by initiatives aimed at, youth, education, cultural, social inclusion, and projects about environmental protection.

So far (2023) we have rescued and offered homes to more than 500 dogs (of which more than 100 in Belgium thanks to the collaboration with the association Nous Pour Eux) and more than 200 cats.

There are many false (and some true) rumours around the associations. We cannot guarantee and know how others work, but we can explain how we work and how we manage the donations we receive. Our association cannot sterilize dogs or cats through the free campaigns offered to the general public and that is why we have to pay them from our account.

Our association does not "sell" dogs or cats, neither in Romania nor abroad. The costs of the preparation for adoption are the same regardless of where the fur is adopted from. For abroad we only add the costs for the passport, deworming and vaccination required in the country of arrival.

Costs for standard health treatments:

Internal and external deworming (minimum 2 times);

Anti-rabies treatment;

Full vaccination schedule;

Sterilisation (for animals aged at least 6 months);

Registration with microchip and RECS;

Health booklet.

In the case of adoption abroad, the following are added:

Passport;

Vaccinations required according to destination (canine cough, etc.);

Tests.

Additional costs if there are specific needs:

X-rays.

Ultrasounds.

Surgical interventions (mostly to resolve fractures of fur found injured).

Euthanasia (obviously only when the doctor considers it necessary).

Any other treatments.

Food costs:

Canned dog and cat food (standard and/or special).

Dry dog and cat food (special).

Rice/pasta.

Sausage / Sausage / Pate (to be used also as a reward and for medication administration).

Pork or chicken offal.

Note: dry food (granules) is collected mainly with donations made in our shopping cart in Carrefour in the mall in Piatra Neamt. These pellets are then distributed and partially redistributed throughout the territory to people who are in economic need or helping animals on the street.

Other costs:

Bowls, collars, leashes, cat litter.

Hygiene and sanitation products (shampoo, surface disinfectant and/or accessories, etc.).

Cleaning materials (litter bags, paper rolls, shovels, brooms, buckets, etc.).

Office supplies.

Fencing and maintenance material.

Costs related to transport with third parties or on own account (fuel and vehicle maintenance).

Regular bookkeeping and budget management.
