Although Cameroon is full of rich rainforest and many different plants and animals the land is also filled with unsustainable ways for agriculture and waste management. One can even find dumpsites deep in the rainforest. These are the last places on earth where nature has stayed unchanged by human activity, but during the decades, harmful behaviour stemming from lack of environmental education has decreast the untouched areas greatly.
The plan is that when local children get to know the ways how an ecosystem works and how their environment is quite fragile they will start changing their behavior in order to perserve the environment. A similar project has been successful in local schools and there are plans to make the environmental clubs nationwide. Local orphanages now also want to take part in a similar project. Green Cameroon has working experience since 2006.
What We Need
Luckily, in Cameroon, even a small contribution can achieve a big impact. Right now, Green Cameroon has extremely limited funds so we use what we can. But in order to really get things started in the orphanages, we really need some tools for work like shovels and spades, but also paper, crayons and pencils for study sessions. The orphanages themselves do not have these essential items themselves.
We at Green Cameroon believe, that even a small change can have big results so that is why we really concentrate on education and youth. IF we do not reach our entire goal, we will still use the funds to optain crucial material to have interesting study sessions with the children.
