Greek Victim Funeral Fund

I am a sixteen year old living in Athens, Greece. I am half Greek on my father's side and half American on my mother's side. I am a member of the Greek National Figure Skating team and the love of my country runs deep. I have had friends that have been affected by this tragedy. In light of tragedy, often many want to donate but aren't sure exactly the best place to donate to. Being a Greek native that is half American, I have friends in America interested in helping but need the advice of where they should donate. That is what gave me the idea of this fund raiser. Of course money won't bring those lost back but it can help those who survived by allowing them the time to grieve by freeing them of financial concerns. As the fires have devastated my grandparents former neighborhood, many of my childhood memories went up in flames. Fortunately my grandparents moved before this tragedy. I have had friends affected by this tragedy, fortunately only with loss of property. I can't even imagine what those that have lost loved ones are going through. My connection to Mati has inspired me to lend a hand in helping those less fortunate than myself. My idea is that too many times we donate and the funds get held up in buracreacy. With this fund I would like to take the donations received here and personally make sure the money is given to help pay for the victims' funeral expenses. In effect, I will take the total amount received here and divided it equally and give it to each victim's family. In the event that the amount doesn't reach the intended goal, I will donate the total received to the Hellenic Red Cross. Time is of the essence in this as funeral expenses will be needed immediately. I want this to be a gesture to show the victim's families that we are mourning their loss with them. Greece is a wonderful country full of giving and caring hospitable people. They deserve to be taken care of in this time of need. I hope you will join me in this endeavor. Fortunately we don’t think anyone was living in the house during the fires.
